@Asphodel indeed, i also found this out yesterday, when i compared both games. It's more playable than "Snoopy", at this slightly higher speed, i have to say. It plays like "Snoopy" on a NTSC C64, but that's cool.

Original it was called Snoopy, and yes because of copyright issues it was changed to Johnny. There is also a french version called Bango and Snoopy version by Courbois Software which was the original one which wasn't released.

As far as i know, the story is this - Johnny is Snoopy's unknown younger brother and after he was cut out of the "Peanuts" movies (because of alcohol-excesses during the filming-sessions), he complained and threatened with lawyers. After this, he was promised an appearance in a C-64 game at least, and here it is, but only in a few of the sold copies ;-)

In short : yes. As far as I know, snoopy got leaked into the pubic domain. Therefore this one was only sold rarely.

I know this version where the sprite looks like Snoopy/Peanuts: https://www.c64-wiki.de/images/8/8a/Snoopy_Animation.gif but there is also this cover: https://www.c64-wiki.de/images/0/07/Snoopy%28Jonny%29Cover.jpg
Was the "Johnny" theme created to avoid copyright issues?
