IRCNet c64 channels
Is there an IRC channel on efnet or ircnet that is free of Deadbeat AND Icycool AND not dead as a doornail? |

#c-64 is dead AFAIK, last time I checked it was idlefest, before that I checked it was endless boring XmikeX bullshit |

There's always #c=64 and of course #c-64 on EFnet (post-The Great Split). |

And EasyFlash3 IRC 2.1 64/128 works great too if you have an EF3. |

#c=64 isn't dead, I recreated it. It's been pretty nice so far. |

Henceforth #c-64 \ #c=64 will be regarded as The Great Split v2. |

Why split it up to different channels at all? Better to use a single one (and use ignore functions if required)? |

because everyone wanted to make their own channel with blackjack and hookers |

Yes I did, all the blackjack and hookers.
And you can't get away from Deadbeat self proclaimed lord of IRC. If you disagree with him in any way he will ban you, or just because he doesn't like you.
I wanted a return to form of IRC from the 90's, when it was good, friendly and no politics or quake deathmatch pick up groups. Also no gate keeping. |

For me #c-64 was source of inspiration, motivation in last century, but when I occasionaly returned there in past years, it was more or less silent. I remember shortest one line scroller challenge (won by Crossbow). I remember Coolhand(RIP), Elwix, Waveform(RIP) to name few. For me it was connection with small NTSC scene, occasional meeting with some more recognizable names in the scene, and oportunity to communicate in english. I was a newcomer back then and I felt at home. I'm grateful for those times of (rosy retrospection) competitive and friendly nature, inspirational debates about coding, demos, art and creatitivity. |

As for "silent", you cannot expect to join at a random time of day and see constant chatter.
There are silent periods, and then there are bursts of activity, ranging from seconds to minutes to hours.
Saying hi and trying to provoke action does not work. |

What Krill said. And every other channel is really pretty dead - and will stay that way, even if you manage to pull in a few people, it'll die off soon - because the main action is still in #c-64, like it or not.
that said, #c64friends on libera kinda is what #c-64 on efnet once was. |

I know. And I'm sorry for overgeneralization. I don't say it's dead, but also I tried few times and didn't get caught.
What kind of activity? ;-)
And anyway, how do I reliably connect to #c-64. I was succesful couple of times and unsuccesfull last 2 times. And today too. What klient? What network? |

For me #c-64 was the real source of proper c64 coding education during my first years. Again, thanks Krillye, Graham (hope you're ok!), WVL, Cruzer and all the others. <3 Thanks once again! Without you guys I'd come nowhere on this devish platform. |

#c-64 is located on IRCnet here is a link , recommended to choose the server in the country you liveing or as close to it as possible
https://www.ircnet.info/servers
For clients I been running irssi the latest 15 years or something and its very good, its a termimal IRC client that works with most Linux / Unixes(includeing macos ) and even Windows, if you want some gui stuff i suppose mirc is still there? But really dont know at all |

groepaz OK negative nancy :) Not everyone feels as you do.
I'm not going anywhere so the channel won't be either. There were other channels like TMR's that also stood the test of time, but he died so...
#c64friends was never anything like EFnet #c-64, totally disagree there.
I never said #c-64 was dead, I just am sick of the elitism and being lorded over by someone who hasn't done shit on the c-64 in over 30 years other than run their highly opinionated mouth.
CreaMD this is also exactly how I remember #c-64 back in the 90s. I miss that vibe, so I hoped to make a place that also had that vibe. So far it's working out. As a member of the channel long before most people I do remember how it was. Fun place to talk about c-64, cracking, talking to friendly people I miss (also RIP coolhand, Waveform, and many others). I learned to crack properly from hanging out there and talking to JJ-UCF, Sorex, and a few others. Loved to talk to crossbow while he was there, Oswald I learned a lot from too, and graham (sadly he is basically gone mentally).
Anyone and everyone is welcome to come there. As said, don't expect massive chat when people are sleeping, but there has already been some really really nice conversations there.
Keep the spirit, drop the ego. |
