Back after 35 years, which "mega" demos will blow my socks off!!

Hi,

Apart from the current Top 10 Demos, Next Level, Mojo, Coma Light 13, and so on. What have I missed?

When I left the 64 in 87 for the ST and Amiga, 64 demos were just an intro, scroller, press space and that was it.

What I find is amanzing is the ones I've mentioned above, are like Trackmos/Megademos on the Amiga - I didn't even know that was possible!

Anyway, which "megademo" is a must have?

Thanks, hope everyone is well.

Yeah been a long time... top 100 demos is a good start, then go through the stuff made by those groups.

it's a case of what hasn't be done.. by decent coders who squeeze every bit of rastertime they can..

if you can't compete on that front , take the design route.. I feel thats the route for many who can code, but not to a silly level can do.

obv. music and graphics have their part to play. i'm not dismisive of that.

as for the amiga? someone didn't get the memo about sine scrollers :D

niallquinn - are you a mackem by any chance? :D Used to love watching Quinny and Phillips up front when I was a kid. Better times!

Anyway, as far as essential modern-ish C64 trackmos go, I think a lot of sceners (from the C64 scene and beyond) still hold Edge of Disgrace in very high regard. My personal favourite might be Old Men in Used Cars.

And there we were, trying not to name any particular demo...

35 years ago even includes the 90s, so stuff long before EoD.

I'd not go for the csdb (or any other website) top list at all (this is VERY skewed really), but check the top3 (or so) of the major parties during the years, that should give you a very good overview.

Even late 80s if we look at

... I left the 64 in 87 ...

when 'Mega Demo' actually was a word :D
I was digging these a lot, so much I even bothered fixing one from 1988 some 27 years later
FHGHG aka Revolution by Agile 101% [fix]

Just kidding, seriously: Term 'Mega Demo' came out of fashion as everything's gotta be TrackMo since... well, I guess since Millennium. Personally, I'd define Mega Demo sth like any multipart demo loading from disk but without trackloader.

In my book, the turning point on C-64 was as early as mid-1992.

And "trackloader" still doesn't make much sense on C-64, unlike Amiga where the term originates. =)

Top or notable demos for each year would be a nice resource.

Quote: Top or notable demos for each year would be a nice resource.

Assembly64 does it for you already with its top20 demos an top20 onefilers per year collections. To an extent though, as 'notable' and 'top ranked' are not always synonyms.

Actually the top20 demos gives you much more than just the top20 per year, which is nice.
